OpenOffice-Enterprise v2.4.1

Release Notes

9-July-2008

This release of OpenOffice-Enterprise is required for compatibility with the OpenOffice.org suite v2.4.1. When upgrading, OpenOffice-Enterprise should be upgraded before the OpenOffice suite. For upgrade instructions, see "Upgrading..." in the OpenOffice-Enterprise Users Manual [0].

Installing OpenOffice-Enterprise automatically applies a baseline enterprise configuration [0] to OpenOffice. If these settings are sufficient, no further action is needed by the system administrator. Alternately, all of the settings in OpenOffice, including the base configuration applied by OpenOffice-Enterprise, can be overridden and set via Group Policy. The baseline settings are further described below at Baseline Configuration [0].

For the changes from prior versions, see Release History [0].

Compatibility

This release is compatible with all of the 2.x versions of the OpenOffice.org office suite: v2.0, v2.0.1, v2.0.2, v2.0.3, v2.0.4, v2.1, v2.2, v2.2.1, v2.3, v2.3.1, v2.4, v2.4.1 and the v2.x-Dev releases.

It is compatible with all 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows that can be administered using Group Policy, including Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise and Windows Vista Ultimate. It can be installed and used on 64-bit versions of Windows, but requires special settings in the Group Policy Editor to force the synchronization of changes. If you are interested in further information, please contact us [0].

It can be used to manage OpenOffice settings using Local Policy by running running gpedit.msc and loading the OpenOffice-Enterprise .adm files, as described at http://OpenOfficeTechnology.com/node/38 [0] and http://OpenOfficeTechnology.com/node/46 [0].

It can also be used to configure OpenOffice settings using only the Windows' registry, without Group Policy. This works under all versions of Windows, including Windows XP Home. If you are interested in this application, please contact us [0].

Finally, with slight modifications, it could be used to manage Sun's StarOffice as well as OpenOffice. If you are interested in using OpenOffice-Enterprise to manage StarOffice, please contact us [0].

Version Identifiers

This version is distributed as ooewin-514.msi [0]. It identifies itself as "OpenOffice-Enterprise v2.4" and has the .msi Product Version 2.4.514. It is also identified as Build 514.

Installation

For testing, this software can be installed on a client computer by simply double-clicking on the .msi file. This version replaces all prior versions, and the installer should automatically uninstall any prior version if installed. The client software can be cleanly uninstalled by running the .msi a second time.
